Dubl or Captions: which to choose

Captions is an editor where AI edits your video in a chosen style and adds a lot of new stuff to it. Dubl does something different: it builds the video only from what you said, using the takes you picked.

In short

Which to choose

When to choose Captions

If you want music, sound effects, B-roll and transitions picked by AI. If you need translation and dubbing into other languages, AI avatars, eye contact correction, horizontal video, or editing on Android, in a browser or on a Mac. Captions simply does a lot more here.

When to choose Dubl

If you shoot a talking head line by line, several takes of each, and want to quickly turn the best takes into a clean vertical video. The AI puts your lines in order by meaning, and only what you actually said makes it into the video.

Two different approaches

Captions is built around AI editing. You upload a video, pick a style in AI Edit, and the app places cuts, zooms, B-roll and sound for you. From there you can add captions, music, a translation into another language or even an AI avatar.

Dubl is simpler and more focused. You shoot your video line by line, several takes of each. AI transcribes your speech, groups the takes by line and puts a star on a strong one. It orders the lines by meaning, and all you do is pick takes. Nothing you didn't say will show up in the video.

Where Captions is stronger

If your video needs more than clean speech, Captions has a much wider toolkit:

  • AI Edit in many styles — cuts, B-roll, zooms and sound in one step;
  • AI-generated music and sound effects, plus transitions;
  • translation and dubbing into many languages, AI avatars, eye contact correction;
  • vertical and horizontal video;
  • runs on iPhone, Android, web and Mac.

Dubl has none of this — it's focused on building a talking video from your takes.

Who each app suits

  • Captions — people who want AI to make a finished video in a chosen style, and those who publish in several languages.
  • Dubl — experts, teachers and creators who talk to the camera line by line and want to decide which take makes it into the video.

If you record one long take and are happy to let AI do the edit, Captions may be the better fit. If you shoot line by line and redo the ones that didn't land, that's exactly what Dubl is made for.

What the workflow looks like

In Captions: upload a video → pick an AI Edit style → review what AI put together → tweak by hand, add captions, music or a translation → save.

In Dubl: record lines with the teleprompter or pick videos from your gallery → AI builds a draft from the best takes with pauses already cut → swap takes where you like and hide an extra line → tap away unwanted words, add stickers → save a vertical video.

Better together

Using both

Build the talking part in Dubl: pick the best takes, hide extra lines, cut pauses and unwanted words. Save the video to your gallery, then open it in Captions if you want to add music, sound effects, B-roll or a translation.

Captions is a trademark of its owner. Dubl is not affiliated with it. This comparison is based on public information from the apps’ official pages as of the date checked; app features change over time.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is Dubl a Captions alternative?

For talking videos shot in takes, yes — but it works differently. In Captions, AI edits the video in a chosen style and adds its own elements. Dubl builds the video only from your takes and orders the lines by meaning, adding nothing of its own.

Does Dubl have music and translation like Captions?

No. Dubl has no music, sound effects, B-roll, translation or avatars — though “Voice only” removes noise from your voice. For those, it's easy to finish the video in another app.

Can Captions pick the best take?

This isn't listed on Captions' official pages. In Dubl it's the core idea: takes of each line sit together, and the best one has a star.

Which devices do the apps run on?

Dubl runs on iPhone right now, with Android coming soon. Captions is on iPhone, Android, web and Mac.
